Bob, Rest is peace brother. We served together onboard USS Green Bay. I don’t do social media, but I soon as found out the sad news I decided to look you up. You are a great leader that I always talked about with junior and senior Sailors. Be on time, in the right uniform and the hardest thing to do, do as your told and you will be successful, these words stuck on me and I always remember them. Thanks for your leadership, mentorship and teaching Chiefs how to be a better Chief. Rest in peace. Respectfully, Mickey Bacelis.

To the Barber Family,
I offer my condolences to your family. I truly appreciated Bob and his friendship and good times during our initial meeting during Precom up to our CPO initiation on the Mighty MUSTIN. When he put his anchors on he was recognized even more as someone who could be counted on at any moment and the voice of reason during the crazy times. It was a privilege to be in the Mess with him on our first tour. Thank you for the laughs good times Bob. I have shared a few pictures from the archive that started the journey to CMDMC. Fair winds and following seas my brother. As an August Chief Petty Officer you made every moment count.
Sincerely,
Joseph Thomas

Bob was a great influence and inspiration to me and everyone around him. Two things that stand out about Bob to me and that I will always remember; number one: just do the best YOU can, not everyone’s 100% is the same but if everyone gives 100% of what they are capable of we are going to be ok. Next: when I would cover for him he said “john, do what you would do, not what Bob would do, I am leaving you in charge because I trust you not because you try to be me” Those two simple things can be striped down into to so many good lessons. I speak of Bob all the time and he will forever be a positive influence in my life. I miss him already.

I had the best time Precomming the Mustin with Bob, we both made Chief on there and we had the greatest time in so many different Ports. One the best Liberty Buddies I ever had. You will be missed Bob. Fair Winds and Following Seas My Brother

Be on time. Be in the right uniform. And just what the F**k you are told. That is what Bob told me and that is what I did. Bob taught me what a leader and Chief truly was. He helped make opportunities for me when I didn’t know they were there. He mentored and guided me and never hesitated to set me straight if I started to veer off course. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and be his relief when he detached from the USS Green Bay.
I miss you dearly my Brother. I will wear your Anchors proudly.

I will miss you dearly, I am so happy I was able to be apart of your life. I will always remember the crazy times onboard boxer. The countless times you always let me vent about shit that was pissing me off. Love coming over to have dinner and playing video games and just bullshitting. I miss you tons and thank you for everything you did for me and for being you, made a huge impact on my life and my life as sailor. Probably had the most impact on how I came to be in my Navy career and in my life. Thank you my dear Friend miss you and may you be at peace no more pain. JessJo

Bob made my first years as a Chief easier by listening, having my back, and putting a foot to backside when needed. He was a good man and Sailor! May his journey be peaceful and may God comfort those who loved him.
