Obituary of George Selzer

George Selzer passed away in his sleep on February 9, 2019.  He was 85 years old.  By his side was his wife of 59 years, Welda, and his three children, Linda, Michael, and Lisa.  He is also survived by daughter-in-law Jodi, and grandsons Deven and Aidan.

George was born in Germany, near Frankfurt, in 1934.  He survived the hardships of the Second World War and the devastation that followed Germany after it ended. George immigrated to New York in 1954 and embraced his new homeland by enlisting in the Army National Guard, eventually transitioning full-time into the Army.  After his service, he became an accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker in New York City.  In 1975, he relocated his family to San Diego to take advantage of the growth opportunities and, not to mention, the sunshine and beauty the city has to offer. George enjoyed exploring his new home by taking his family on expeditions to Cuyamaca and Anza Borrego desert.  Although he was a naturalized U.S. Citizen he never forgot his roots and always cheered for the German national soccer team. Once retired, he enjoyed continuing using his carpentry skills for longtime customers. He also built unique birdhouses and was an avid reader. History being his favorite subject.

He instilled pride in history to his children and grandchildren.  He always emphasized doing the right things in your life.  His legacy lives on through his children and grandsons.
