Obituary of Maria J. Mirabella

On September 11, 2020, Maria Judi Mirabella passed away peacefully at her home with her devoted sisters, Cecelia and Anita, by her side. Maria fought a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Maria was born in 1961 in Queens, New York, the fourth of five children to James and Grace (Rudyanski) Mirabella. In 1976, the family decided to move to Intervale, New Hampshire. There Maria enjoyed working together to run Perry's  Motel and Cottages. Maria graduated Kennett High School in 1979. Then went on to graduate with Honors from New Hampshire Vo-Tech College in Berlin, where she became a professionally trained chef, a talent she shared with many friends and family throughout her life. Maria attended New Hampshire College in Manchester, and completed the Paralegal Studies Program at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Maria moved to San Diego in 1985. She graduated from the Lawyer’s Assistant Program at the University of San Diego with Honors.

Maria then landed the job of her life at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Maria worked with several judges during her 30-year career with the Clerk’s Office. She served the Court with distinction in various roles including Appeals Clerk, Courtroom Deputy and lastly CVB Clerk. Maria received many letters of appreciation and awards for her dedication, outstanding performance and commitment to community outreach programs and customer service.

Maria was a fun-loving adventurous soul who enjoyed everything life had to offer. She was the first in the family to try rock climbing and white-water rafting. Maria was an avid bicyclist and many times biked to work. She biked 100 miles in El Tour de Tucson in Arizona. She celebrated her 39th birthday with a 200-mile bike tour of Vermont with her sister-in-law Judy. To top that she swam a full mile for her 40th! Maria enjoyed rollerblading around Lake Murray and wind-surfing on Mission Bay. Later in life she focused on crafting, sewing, needlework and quilting. Most of all she enjoyed sharing her passions and time with her MANY friends.

Maria loved her job, loved her community, loved her co-workers and loved her family and friends. She deeply cared for everyone she came in contact with. Her friends are quick to tell you that Maria had the biggest heart and an incredible sense of humor and will surely be missed. She was a true angel on earth.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents James and Grace Mirabella. She is survived by her daughter Raven Marie Mirabella and her granddaughter Rhaya Whiles. Cherishing her memory are her 4 siblings; James (Judy), their children Alicia, Rick and Matthew; Francesca (Marlene); Cecelia, her children Stephen, Victoria and Nathanael; and Anita (Speedo) and their children Zara and Kiana.
