Loyd Jarman

Obituary of Loyd Allen Jarman

EL CAJON — Loyd Allen Jarman, age 63, passed away early in the morning on Sunday, March 11, 2018 of multiple causes after a valiant 10-year battle against cancer. Loyd died at home pursuant to his wishes, in the tender care of his wife and family. Loyd was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 27, 1954, to Lewis Wilson and Evelyn Allen Jarman. He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Ann, beloved daughter Tanya and son-in-law Chris Roberts, grandchildren Kyle and Emma, brother Lowell and sister-in-law Jan Jarman, mother-in-law Delores McCornack, brother-in-law Alan McCornack, cousins Chip Jarman (Lynn), Laura Greathead (Tim), and Mary Ann Barnhart, extended family and friends. Loyd proudly graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Photography with additional qualifications in Professional Portraiture and Color Technology. He began his career as a photo technician and store manager in 1979, after taking a year off to drive a truck with his step-brother John Schneider. He became a technical supervisor for 60 Minute Photo based on his knowledge of photochemistry and natural mechanical skill. He then began his 22-year career with Noritsu America Corporation of Buena Park in 1988 as a technical service representative, becoming a District Supervisor for Western Region in 1998. Loyd particularly enjoyed his work through Noritsu as a civilian contractor for the military, installing and servicing photo equipment on military bases and multiple Navy carriers. Loyd chose to take an early retirement in 2009 due to health considerations. Loyd was a life-long “motor head,” owned and enjoyed driving American “muscle cars,” and followed NASCAR racing. In his youth, Loyd enjoyed camping, swimming, body-surfing, water-skiing, frisbee and table-tennis. He was also very musically talented, a self-described “band nerd” in junior and high school, played the trombone in marching band, marched in the Rose Parade, and performed in concerts with the school jazz ensemble, the Esquires. He also played the guitar. He became interested in photography in high school, which became his ultimate career path. He and Ann enjoyed traveling and RV camping, and Loyd was amazingly adept at maneuvering a 30-foot, truck-towed fifth wheel. He also enjoyed exploring the Anza Borrego desert off-road on his motorcycle from his and Ann’s vacation home in Borrego Springs, and volunteered with the Borrego Springs Fire Department’s Civilian Emergency Response Team. In retirement, Loyd also volunteered with the Midway Museum performing aircraft restoration, and with Meals on Wheels delivering meals to seniors. His organizational and people skills were soon recognized, and he became a Site Coordinator in East County for Meals on Wheels. In many ways, Loyd was an ordinary man. He was an exemplar of American middle-class values instilled in him by his parents, both educators, to obtain an education, work hard, and take care of family. Loyd was in his element at family gatherings, and particularly enjoyed the holiday season. But Loyd was also an extraordinary man, epitomizing rare qualities of kindness, respect and consideration towards others. He was unfailingly supportive of Ann throughout her law school years and subsequent career. Ann was his staunch patient advocate during his illness. Loyd’s daughter and family members were very involved and helpful during his illness. He never complained and fought to live to the very end with unfailing optimism. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Loyd’s life will be held at a future date and place to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations in Loyd’s name be made to either of the following: Meals on Wheels, San Diego County East County Service Center 131 Chambers Street, Suite 100 El Cajon, CA 92020 USS Midway Museum 910 N.
