Obituary of Robert W. Howie

Bob - a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend has moved on. His mansion in heaven was ready and he has moved from this earth. No doubt he is now fishing and playing catch with his dad exchanging “stupid jokes”. Bob often said, “Life is meant to be lived.” He did that. He never lost his sense of humor and quick wit up to the last day. He was always a family man. He was an ET in the U.S. Navy, a skilled carpenter, a businessman, and a gifted athlete. A man’s man, some have said, and yet having a child-like heart.

He was a natural athlete and enjoyed all sports as playing came easy to him. From a toddler, school years, in the Navy, and on through his senior years, he was always ready to play. He truly was delighted when he had the opportunity to teach someone. Bob coached Tball, women’s co-ed, and B-league teams. Fishing and golf were the last two sports his body would allow him to play. His favorite activity? Playing with the kids. He loved children. He loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their little friends. Bob was so strong in every sense of the word and yet quick to get down on his knees to play with the children. It gave him such joy you could see it in the gleam in his eyes.

Bob had more inner strength than anyone I have ever known. He never stepped away from a challenge and never gave up on anything. In acts of love, he sacrificed much. From him, we learned what true love looked like. He truly loved family. He encouraged us all to be ourselves. From him, we learned not to be afraid of being ourselves or of facing new challenges. He deposited such a treasure in our hearts that will continue for generations.

For decades Bob suffered severely from health complications. He fought hard and maintained his sense of humor until the end. Now, Bob, you are in heaven-a much better place. With love and a strong spirit, Bob did love life. He will remain alive in our hearts always. Bob will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all family and friends.
