Darlene Brown

Obituary of Darlene Ruth Brown

Darlene Brown was born on February 20, 1929. She was raised in Okeene, Oklahoma on a farm with her mother, father and sister Lorene, and brothers, Roy, Richard and Raymond. She was the youngest child. In 1949. Darlene had decided to go to CA with her brother and his wife and she never went back home. She met Bert Brown and they got married in 1959. They were so much in love. Mom kept the house clean and of course breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. They eventually had two daughters Patty Brown in 1953 and Nancy Botte in 1957. Way back then we made quite a few road trips from California to Okalahoma and then Florida to see Mom and Dad’s families.

Mom loved being a housewife and taking care of us. We went to a lot of different places in Mexico, the desert, the beach, drive in movies, and black and white TV that you actually had to have rabbit ears and you had to get up to change the channels! She loved being a grandma to her grandson’s Rocco and Dominic.

Mom was an avid exerciser. She started out watching Jack LaLanne and then other exercises on TV. She also liked to walk which she would do everyday. When she moved to Meadowbrook she would exercise in the pool, take chair yoga and go walking. Mom loved to bowl and she went every week. She enjoyed the beach, downtown SD and eating Mexican food.

At age 90 we had to move her to a home care house in Santee, called Julie’s Elderly Care. She loved being there with her own room and a view of the Carlton Oaks golf course. Julie and her caregivers Esta and Yuree are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life! Mom even liked Maggie, Julie’s golden doodle. Maggie was the highlight of the day for everyone.
