Obituary of Charles Henry Peabody

Charles Henry Peabody, known as Chuck to all, age 86, died in San Diego, California, on Monday, August 24, 2020, from natural causes.

Chuck was born on April 24, 1934, in Cambridge, New York.  He was the son of George Albert Peabody, Sr. and Belle Dora Cox.  Chuck was one of five children that grew up on a picturesque dairy farm in Cambridge, New York.

He joined the US Navy at 17 years old.  While in the Navy, he met the beautiful and kind, Jeanne Marie Barney, and they soon married.

During their marriage they had seven children together.  They lived in many places in the United States while serving the US Navy, but chose Chula Vista, California, as the place where they would raise their family.

Chuck served the US Navy for over 20 years.  Upon his retirement from the Service, he worked for the US Postal Service where he also worked for over 20 years.

Chuck returned to Cambridge, New York, many years after leaving for the Navy and obtained his high school diploma, something of which he was very proud.

Chuck was very involved in his community and served the Loyal Order of Moose for many years, including as the Governor of his local lodge in Chula Vista, California.  He and Jeanne participated in nearly every charitable function the Moose Lodge sponsored for 35 years.

Chuck had a giving spirit, and he and Jeanne were always the first ones to welcome a new neighbor and lend a hand.

He was the beloved patriarch of his family and helped many, many family members any time they needed advice or support.

Chuck lost the love of his life, Jeanne Marie, in May of 2009.

Chuck had two sons who preceded him in death, Barney, who died in 2010, and Barney’s twin brother, Chucky, who died as an infant.

Chuck is survived by his daughters, Cynthia and Victoria, his sons, Michael, Joseph, and Patrick, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Chuck will be missed, but his family has comfort in knowing he has joined his bride, Jeanne Marie, and will be with her for eternity.
