I only knew Jose for a couple of months but that was enough time for him to have a special place in my heart. Extremely friendly, funny, awesome to be around, and a fantastic story teller. I loved his stories. Storing ranging from those darn gophers in his yard eating up his bulbs to him beating everyone he played at handball EXCEPT this one guy. Jose would tell me his hiking conquests and favorite hiking spots.
Whenever he spoke of his kids and grandkids his face would just light up with pride and joy. I loved seeing that.
My deepest condolences to the Acosta Family, my prayers go out to you.
Rest in paradise Jose,
may you play unlimited handball and hike the highest mountain in heaven. I'll miss you.

Sending love to everyone who knew and loved Big Poppa, he was always so loving and welcoming to everyone he met. I always like to believe that when we lose someone close to us, they will still live through us and give us strength. The time we have spent with those we’ve lost will always make them part of us. His legacy will live on, and he will be truly missed. We love you Big Poppa.

I will always remember our Red Sox and Yankees game, When I returned from deployment we went to see the final game at the old Yankee stadium. He was a connoisseur of coffee and loved Stella Artois! We always looked forward to his visits to Virginia as he treated my family like his own. He will be dearly missed. We love you Big Poppa!

He was truly one of the greatest! His laugh and smile were contagious. He will be missed so much but will live forever in the hearts of everyone that loved him and anyone that got the opportunity to know him. Rest In Peace Big Poppa and my condolences to his family.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to visit and share a few thoughts with us. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that we have received. This is a true testament to the person that my dad was and that he always strived to be. My dad taught us many life lessons over the years. The emphasis was always on being a good person who cherishes family and good friends. I will miss our daily texts and all of the wisdom that you shared. You may not be here physically, but you will ALWAYS be with me. I love you!
