On this Memorial Day, I am remembering my dear uncle. Not until I moved to California in the early 70s did I really get to know him well (along with his wife and children). Each visit was special. We would find some time to talk about growing up on the family farm, on which we both grew up. I only learned with in this past decade that he was valedictorian of his high school class. He was never one to boast. As a first generation Finnish-American he served in WW II, came home and got a masters degree on the GI bill, and had a distinguished career as a space engineer. He and my aunt are good, honest, hard-working people. I always enjoyed spending time with both of them. I, and I know his family, all miss him every day.

Everett & I met in the early '60s when I transferred over to the General Dynamics Astronautics Guidance & Trajectory Dept. That was an important of the early space days and Everett was a key player in getting satellites aboard Atlas rockets launched successfully into space from the Florida Cape Canaveral. After I left that department our relationship (including Anne-Marie) continued for many decades, hiking, coffees, politics, travel discussions, and general pursuits. He was a fine friend and associate.

I met Everett in 1963. I went to San Diego and lived with him and my sister Anne-Marie while I was attending college (university pf San Diego). I remember how nice Everett was with his children. I shall always remember how nice, understanding and delicate he was with me, He was a very kind and honest person .

I met Everett in 1956 in Maracaibo where we both arrived on the same day. We immediately became friends as we shared so much in our views of life. He was a good friend and remained so until the end of his life. In 1957 my sister, Anne-Marie, came to live with me and Everett met her near the end of that year. In February 1958 I married Carol and six months later Everett married my sister. From that time on we met continuously in various places around the world.
Everett was intelligent, thoughtful, good-humored, compassionate and a advocate for justice. We shared interest in the outdoors and the arts, in the sciences and in politics and philosophy of,life.
Everett will be thoroughly missed.
