Obituary of Joseph Wayne Ferst

Joseph Wayne Ferst, 55, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 13, 1963, passed away peacefully on December 9,2019 at his home in San Diego.

Joey is preceded in death by his father Richard W. Ferst of Pennsylvania.

Joey is survived by his son Brandon J. Ferst of San Diego; his mother Roseanne Luque of San Diego; sisters Anita F Cook (Patrick) of San Diego; Gina C. Bartnik (Kevin) of New York;  Maria Ferst of San Diego; nephews Taylor Cook; Colin Bartnik; niece Bailey Bartnik.

Joey was born in Philadelphia , PA and moved to San Diego in 1969. Joey enjoyed sports as a youth and was introduced to fishing by his father and grandfather. Joey graduated from James Madison high school in 1982. After high school, Joey began his career with the Teamsters in 1984 and primarily drove cement mixer trucks through out his career.

Joey worked for various materials corporations in San Diego including Premixed, Hanson and Vulcan. Joey loved working at a job that let him meet great people and have the freedom of the open road.

Joey retired in 2009 due to health related issues.

Joey's love of fishing found him traveling throughout the West Coast and Baja California on charter trips with friends and family. He also liked camping trips and rafting at the American river. He was a lifelong sports fan as well and enjoyed the company of his son Brandon, close friends and family at football, hockey, baseball, basketball and MMA events.

He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting as a hobby. Joe also was actively involved in Alcoholic's Anonymous as a sponsee, sponsor and volunteer. His growth with recovery helped him share his experiences with others. Joey was caring, sentimental, funny and most of all, loved spending time with his family. Joey had the innate ability to make friends and have them be as close as family.

Joey will truly be missed by all those who ever came across this wonderful special person.

Joey's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 19th, 2019 between the hours of 2pm and 4pm for a celebration of his life at Community Bible Church, 9800 Carroll Centre Road, San Diego, CA 92126
