Obituary of Robert Zuniga Valero

Robert Z. Valero, aka ‘Bobby’, a long time resident of San Diego, passed away February 28th, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving wife, Julia, and his family.

Bobby was born in San Diego but was raised by his grandmother Delfina, in Brawley Calif., along with his sisters Rebecca, Irene and Margie. He moved to San Diego in the mid 1950’s.  One day in spring 1959, he went to a picnic in Pine Valley, Ca. and met the love of his life, his wife Julia. He was so in love with his ‘Flaca’ he didn’t even hesitate to say I do, knowing she already had 4 children. Bobby took the children in as his own and they became an instant family. Soon thereafter they would have 3 more children.

Bobby became a barber in the early 1960’s landing his first barbering job at Harvey’s Barber Shop in National City, Ca. He was excellent at his craft and moved around to different barbershops around San Diego styling hair for many including the Mayor, football stars, entertainers and hundreds of other San Diegans. He enjoyed many things but some of his favorites were his wife’s home cooking, going to and watching Charger Games and listening to music. He was also pretty good at the guitar too.

One thing he never stopped doing was dating his wife, he loved to take her out to movies, dinner and especially dancing! He danced with her until he was no longer able to, especially at their favorite place, Café La Maze!

Bobby passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He is preceded in death by his parents, Augustine and Alice, his sisters Irene and Rebecca and his son Leroy. He is survived by his wife Julia, daughter Linda (Dan), son Danny (Dora), son Angel (Will), daughter Norma, and sons Bobby and Michael and his sister Margie. He had 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by many In-Laws, and nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
