Obituary of Doris Arlene Anderson

Doris was born Doris Arlene Smeaton on the family farm in Oshkosh, Nebraska. She was raised there, along with her older sister Evelyn, by her parents Arthur and Ollie Smeaton.

Although this was during the Depression years and WWII, she described this time in her life as a happy one.

At age 19, Doris moved to North Platte , Nebraska with her childhood best friend Phyllis (McCord)Weaver. They worked as secretaries and had many adventures, as Mom always said that they "were the new girls in town".

Doris met her future husband Carl ( Andy) Anderson in North Platte. They were married there in 1950.

They moved to San Diego in 1952, as Carl was re-activated with the Navy during the Korean war, after serving in WWII.

Doris worked at San Diego Hardware, then as a secretary for the San Diego Downtown Association.

She was a part-time secretary at her church, Christ Lutheran, in La Mesa. She has been a member there since the 1950s.

Her husband Carl passed away in 2009.

She loved her home, her family and friends, and her church.

She was always a good story teller, and loved to laugh and go on road trips.

On February 1st,  she passed away at home very peacefully.

Doris is survived by her daughter Laurie Anderson-Robinson, son-in-law Jeff Robinson, sister Evelyn Stutzman, grandchildren Sarah Call and her husband, Patrick, Kelly Robinson, and Jake Robinson, and 9 great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews and their extended families.

Services will be held on February 12th, at 4:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sharp Hospice Care, La Mesa, Ca or to the American Heart Association.

Special thanks to Dr Pokala and his staff for all their care for 17 years. Also, to Sharp Hospice Care, and to Moms additional caregiver Bernadette who was so helpful to the family.
