Barthélémy posted a condolence
Sunday, November 10, 2019
Hello, to begin I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the whole family.
I introduce myself, my name is Barthélémy Philippe and I live in Belgium.
This Sunday I'm going to walk in the woods and I find a brass plaque with the name of a US soldier who came pandant World War II 40-45 it is actually a plaque taking over the this person's social security number in the name of William James Doyle under number 039-07-4054.
My question is the following, Mr. Doyle resumed under this number of social security is it really the person who came to Belgium during the Second World War. If so, I would be happy to send this card to the family as a sign of his memory.
If this is not the case please accept my apologies for this inconvenience.
Thank you in advance for your response.

Steve,
My heart goes out to you and your family at this difficult time. Please let me know if there is anything I can help with. Being a Navy family myself, I appreciate and respect your Father's service more than you know.

Anyone who knew Cpt. Doyle knew he had a wicked while subtle sense of humor. Steve and I are friends from high school. I remember multiple times calling the Doyle house, w/ Cpt. Doyle answering the phone. The conversation went like this:
Cpt Doyle: Hello
Me: Hi Cpt Doyle, this is Bruce. Is Steve there?
Cpt Doyle: Yes.
Silence, seeming to stretch on forever (maybe 5-10 seconds) until:
Me, with frustration in my voice: Well, can I talk to him?
Cpt Doyle: Sure, just a minute
And I swear I could hear him quietly laughing every time this happened (teenage boys have a very long learning curve).
Great memories, great guy.
God bless.

Like my brother Steve, I too have very fond memories of our family's three driving trips across the United States stopping at interesting tourist sites along the way (Flintstone Village among my favorites). I also remember newspaper wrapped cold beer cans in the igloo and when dad asked for something to drink, we would simply unwrap a beer and give it to him. Also I remember on one of our trips when we pulled off the highway to get gas (I think it was in Arizona) and the only station available was selling gas for 30 cent a gallon, and my dad refused to buy gas at such a "rip-off" price, so we got back on the highway still needing gas!
As long as I can remember, Dad always put pepper on his food BEFORE tasting it! Since mom is such a great cook, I would ask him "why are you peppering your food before ever tasting it?". His reply would be its 'simply a habit from 37 years in the Navy where you did anything you could to cover up the taste'!
I also fondly remember my dad taking us to demolition derbys and figure eight car racing; getting his movie reviews; going to the movies with him whenever I visited; and talking sports!
My dad was always there for his family as a role model in life, family and work, and was an encouraging force in our lives! Dad, I love and miss you so very much!

I never had the privilege of meeting your father, but I want to thank the whole Doyle family for the sacrifices that you have made while being a Navy family. In my years with the Navy, I found the Mustangs to be the backbone of the service. My first boss was a Mustang, and I will never forget him.
Our condolences are extended to the whole Doyle family. If there is anything we can do, please just ask. Bill and Cheryl Bramley and family

Driving across the country. We did it three times! Each time, we took a different route, but the itinerary didn't change much. We left early in the morning. Mark and I would climb into the back seat and sleep for a couple of hours. Then, we would fight until Dad threatened us with walking, or we stopped for lunch. Then back in the car for another 3 or 4 hours. When the "are we there yet?" questions became too often or to whiny, Dad found a place to stop for the night. Usually, a roadside motel with a swimming pool. While Mom and Dad unpacked what we needed for the night, Mark and I were running to change and jump in the pool. Then dinner and bed, so we could start all over the next morning.
Dad chose to drive three different routes so we could experience the middle of the country. Being a navy family, we knew a lot about the east coast, Gulf coast and west coast. What we got to see was Yellowstone Park, the Black Hills of South Dakota, the corn fields of the Midwest, 3 different looks at the Mississippi River, St Louis, Memphis, Nashville, the deep south, the southwest and Texas, Texas, Texas! I will always be grateful to Dad for the forethought of making a boring trip fun and never really making me walk!
Steve
