Obituary of Mary Jean Prokop

On Wednesday, November 28, 2018, Mary Jean Prokop, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at the age of 89. 

 

Mary Jean was born on March 27, 1929, in San Diego California to Paul and Antonette Acebedo. She graduated from San Diego High School in 1949. She worked for nearly 10 years at Grayson’s Department Store in downtown San Diego.

 

On June 24, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart Harvey. They were married for nearly 66 years. They raised one daughter, Paulette and three sons, Chris, Charlie, and Monty.

 

Mary Jean had a passion for her family and life. Everyone who knew her loved to be around her. She was always a happy and optimistic person who saw the glass half full. Mary Jean was know for her beautiful smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. 

 

She was a fabulous cook and was known for her delectable desserts. In fact, every Thanksgiving, her family looked forward to her world famous apple pie. 

 

In addition to cooking, Mary Jean loved to travel. She and her late husband traveled the world and together they explored over 40 countries.

 

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, who passed away in April 2017. She is survived by her four children, her sister Pauline, her brother Donald, son-in-law Mike, daughter-in-law Bonnie,  six grandchildren Nicole, Michael, Chad, Claire, Cory, Tony, grandsons-in-laws Ivan and John, grand-daughter-in-law Sara and seven great grandchildren, Chase, Jacob, Julia, Ava, Sydney, Hailey, and Carter. 

 

A private service will be held on Friday, December 7,  2018, 12:30 PM at Legacy Funeral and Cremation. Flowers may be sent to their location at 7043 University Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942.
