Obituary of Burton Edwin Bolt

Burt Bolt beloved husband and father, was born July 11, 1924 in North Haven, Connecticut to George D. Bolt the Catherine Curtis Bolt. His siblings include: Jerome Bolt, Bill Bolt, and Jane Bolt all deceased. Burt was proud of his service to his country, serving in the US Naval Air from Dec. 12, 1942 to Feb. 7, 1946. The Navy trained Burt as an airplane mechanic for B-24’s and was part of a B-24’s gunner crew on solo flights to find and report Japanese shipping, and attack/sink the ships. The Pacific Islands where Burt Bolt saw action were: Noumea, New Caldonia, New Hedrides, Guadalcanal, Russel Islands, Munda, Rendova, Bouganville, Green Island, Solomon Islands, Adiralties, New Guinea, Owi Island, Moritai, Peleliu, Leyte Philippines, Lingayen Gulf Luzon, Clark Field, Luzon, Manila, Philippines, and Marshall Islands. On August 20, 1949 he married Catherine “Rene” Mainetti in Guilford, CT. They had four children: Janice Bolt Bacon, deceased, Cathleen Bolt, deceased, Ellen Bolt Catt, Thomas Bolt, eight grandchildren, Joshua Nix, Emily Catt, Christopher Catt, Adam Bolt, Hunter Bolt, Tayah Bolt, Carter Bolt, Maizy Bolt. And five great grandchildren: Gage Nix, Ashton Nix, Kaili Nix, Gunner Nix, and Elijah Nix. Together with his wife he built and operated the Crestline Motel and Burt’s Garage in CT before moving to Santa Barbara, Ca. in 1962. Burt was active in the Santa Barbara Elks #613 from 1979-1986 serving as the Exalted Ruler from 1982-1983 and on the Board of Directors from 1983-1986. After retirement Burt made outstanding realistic carvings of birds and other animals. His love of carving even extended to carving shrubs in his yard. Burt and his wife Rene enjoyed RVing for 30 years and also traveled abroad to 57 countries. Their travel adventures were chronicled in 46 picture albums. They loved to play bridge with friends. Often they played in bridge tournaments that raised money for charity. Funeral services at the Santa Barbara Cemetery will be private.
