Obituary of Lawrence Scott Canoff

Larry Canoff, age 66, passed away on June 22, 2018, following a five-year battle with multiple degenerative neurological conditions. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Alyssa, son Vince and Vince’s daughter Cora. Larry was born in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Edna and Ray Canoff. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and obtained a master’s degree in communications / broadcast journalism at Loyola of Chicago. In 1972, Larry moved to Medford, Oregon, to take a job as a DJ at a local radio station. He later met his wife, Karen Huston, in Eugene, OR. The couple were married in Portland, OR in 1981, and moved to San Diego, California in 1985. For most of his adult life, Larry worked as a stay-at-home-Dad, never missed either of his children’s sports games (baseball, softball, basketball, soccer), and was a most loving Papa to his granddaughter Cora. He coached baseball in the Mission Trails Little League in San Diego and basketball in the Destined to Be Stars program in La Mesa. Larry also loved movies and music, particularly R&B, Soul and Blues. In addition to his family and friends, he often said that baseball was his life and his church. According to his wishes, Larry’s body is being donated to the Science Care program.
