Obituary of Larry Max Thiringer

Larry Max Thiringer was born in Redmond Oregon, to Hans and Edna Thiringer in February 1943. The Thiringers lived in Spokane, Wash. Larry has two brothers, Garry born in 1944, and Lenny in 1946. When Larry was about 10 years old he spent the summer at his Uncle’s dairy in Washington. He loved everything about it, rounding up the cows, milking, feeding, watering them, and driving the tractor. The work he did each summer really defined him. He enjoyed being responsible, and treated like the other hands. It was there he acquired his work ethic and his bulldog tenacity. When there was a job to do, he was the go to man to get it done. Those traits made him. He had a wicked sense of humour, a quick wit, a ready laugh and loved a good story, mostly told on himself. Larry attended West Valley High in Spokane, Washington. In February 1962 he enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1965, he married Lea Matol in Abucay, Batann, Philippines. In 1967, Larry brought Lea and her two children Mike and Anna to the states. In 1970, Larry and Lea had their daughter Lisa. Larry served in the Pacific Fleet and retired in 1981. During his time in the Navy he served on the USS Ajax, USS Vesuvius. Larry worked as a pipefitter by trade. While working at Continental Maritime he met his wife Lisa. They married in 1990. Larry enjoyed bicycle riding, tinkering and driving his 1940 ford tractor, hunting, fishing, target shooting, reloading, restocking rifle and shotgun stocks. He loved the outdoors, camping and hiking the back country, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Larry passed away on August 25th. Larry is survived by his wife Lisa Ribas Thiringer, ex-wife Lea and their three children: Anna Meyers, Michael Matol, and Lisa Thiringer; grandchildren Michael and Nicolette Matol, Megan Myers (Mike Myer) and Joshua Meyers, Derek Nielsen, Desiree Moorehart (Barry), and Ian Thiringer; great-grandchildren Liyah, Devon, and Kayla Matol (Michael), and Madison and Layla Meyers (Meagan); brothers Gary and Larry Thiringer (Kristi) and niece Jessica and nephews Petra and David (Millie) Thiringer. Services will be held Saturday September 15th from 2-4pm at Legacy Funeral Home in La Mesa.
