Caroline grew up in Las Vegas, New Mexico, graduating from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1949. She moved to San Diego, California in 1953 with her husband and three kids. Two more children were born in San Diego. Caroline was a strong, hardworking determined person who could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, house repairs and spending time with her pets. She volunteered for several Encanto Neighborhood Improvement Groups with her dear friend and neighbor Julia La Blanc.
Caroline had a stroke on September 9, 2017. The next morning, she said, “life is not what you think it is”. Caroline passed away peacefully September 28th with daughter Vicki and great grandson Sam by her side. Family gathered in Caroline’s hospital room after her last breath. Great-great granddaughter Bella Madrid (8) made an announcement: “Grandma is not dead. She is in another realm and now she is everywhere.”
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents Victoriano and Frances Sandoval; brother Wilfred Sandoval, sisters Socorro Lopez, and Mary Sandoval, and son Patrick Madrid.
Caroline is survived by her brother Juan Sandoval, four children: Victoria Madrid, Bertha Algarva, Richard Madrid, James Barnard; seven grandchildren: Ernestina Roberts, Roberta Holt, Edwina Algarva, Andrea Stolsmark, Mario Madrid, Michael Madrid, and Taylor Barnard; nineteen great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. She also has numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in New Mexico.
